When selecting pond filter or when using pond water treatment products you have to know the volume of your garden pond.
Below you will find 3 different guides/methods for calculating the pond volume.
Measure the pond volume while filling the pond with water
If you have a water meter you can check the meter before and after the pond is filled with water.
If you do not have a water meter you can calculate the amount of water being taped into the pond.
With the time method you take the time
it takes to fill the pond using a constant flow of water. Then you can calculate the volume of the pond.
To calculate the pond volume when the pond is already filled with water
To calculate the volume of an irregular shaped pond you have to use an approximation of length, width and depth.
Below you will find two guides to help you make a qualified estimation of the pond volume.
With the check pattern method you draw the outline of your pond on a square graph paper and count the squares.
This method lets you make a good estimate of the volume of any irregular shaped pond.
The guide also contains an easy to use drawing tool.
With the "adding" regular shape method you split a complex shaped pond into several regular shaped areas.
By adding the volume of each regular shape you get a good estimate of the pond volume.
