How to choose a perfect Garden Hose ?
Consider these factors below while choosing a Garden hose and you will end up with a perfect hose all the time:
- Hose length:
Choose the hose length based on the size of the garden.
It is ideal to have the hose length slightly longer than that needed to reach the farthest end of your garden.
- Hose diameter:
The most common hose diameter used in Australia is 12.5mm (1/2 inch).
As one can understand, a hose with larger diameter will carry more water per minute.
A ½ inch hose covers most light duty garden tasks including connecting to sprinklers.
- Weight:
The weight of the hose will increase based on its length and diameter.
A longer or wider hose be heavier than their shorter or thinner equivalents.
Hence if weight is a concern for you, consider usage of a hose reel or hose cart to carry the hose to required corners in the garden.
- Water pressure at delivery point:
This is an important consideration because not always bigger is better.
For example, a thicker hose used over a longer length may not suit the pressure needed for washing a car.
On the other hand, if you intent to carry the water uphill through a hose, it will be more beneficial to use a large diameter hose.
- Antikink property:
Kinking of a hose make it more susceptible to bursts and splits.
Hence the antikink property of your hose ensures a higher operational lifetime of the hose.
- Availability of accessories:
A Hose may not always be sold with the required adaptors and end connectors needed for the tasks that you plan.
Hence plan for suitable fittings to save time and to avoid wastage of water.
