VegTrug Planter & Garden Beds Frequenty Asked Questions

VegTrug Planter & Garden Beds Frequenty Asked Questions

VegTrug is here at Rock Around The Block. We have put together a list of FAQ’s that may help with your new VegTrug.

If you already have one, this will still help you to better maintain the VegTrug garden bed or planter.

  • 1) How long do VegTrugs last?

Whilst the wooden side of VegTrug lasts a long long time, the liner is designed to be biodegradable and will break down quickly when exposed to the elements like direct sunlight.

However, it should last a few seasons without a problem if used correctly and not left exposed.

  • 2) How do you maintain a VegTrug?

There isn’t much to do with respect to maintenance as the VegTrug units are pre-treated wood that lasts a long time.

However it’s a good idea to re-treat the wood every year or so. Get yourself a good wood cure treatment, eg, Gripset Betta Wood Cure, or any food safe wood treatments will suit.

It’s also a good idea to keep the VegTrugs in part share part sun area to minimise exposure to direct heat. This will considerably increase the life of the garden bed or planter.

If you don't want to keep your VegTrug outdoors when it isn't filled with plants, there is the option to empty out the VegTrug and store it away until it's needed again the following year. If you empty out all the compost/soil from the trug it will make it lighter to lift and move.

  • 3) How often should I treat the wood on my VegTrug with preservative?

Like we said earlier, treating it every year or so with a good quality food safe, wood cure treatment is recommended.

VegTrug recommends use of Gripset Betta wood cure.

  • 4) What soil should I use in the VegTrug?

Since the VegTrugs are lined, you can choose to use any good soil or potting mix that suits your plants.

  • 5) How often should I change the soil in the VegTrug?

You can follow all nominal garden & plant growing practices and there are no special requirements for VegTrug as such.

More than a soil change a soil top is recommended as and when required, especially during start of spring season.

  • 6) Putting together a VegTrug and nothing fits! The boards simply will not line up correctly when I try to put them on. What am I doing wrong?

Like all assembly and fittings, never tighten the bolts & screws when the assembly is ongoing. Follow the instructions in the VegTrug closely.

At the very beginning of the build when you put the “H” of the legs together, you must leave the bolts on the legs loose so that there is some play.

Once all parts are put together, only then start to tighten the bolts & screws.
