Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about Solar Lights:

Frequently asked questions regarding Solar Lights:

1) Should I clean the solar panels of my Solar lights and how?

You should clean your solar panels on your solar lights on a regular basis to get the most optimal performance. Anything that blocks the sunlight from being absorbed by the photovoltaic material will reduce the efficiency of the panel. The panels should be cleaned using a slightly moistened microfiber cloth, or similar soft touch fabric with minimal pressure, as scratches or dents may reduce its performance. Do not use any corrosive cleaning liquids or chemicals since this may damage the housing surface.

2) What is the ideal location to install the Solar Lamp?

An outdoor LED Post light that is powered by Solar Panels should be installed in a well-lit area where it will receive maximum straight sunlight during daytime. Shadows of building or trees will affect the panel’s ability to absorb sunlight and will result in the lamp to glow for reduced hours.

For Solar Post lights, as they are tall structures, with height over 2m, it is highly likely that it will receive direct sunlight at most locations.

3) How should I maintain my Solar light?

Solar Post lights have very few maintenance requirements beyond inspecting the solar panel for dust or bird droppings build up. It is recommended to place the product under the sun for recharging even if it is not being used to prevent from a dead battery and maximise the unit’s operational life.

4) Do solar lights need sun or just daylight?

Solar lights don’t need direct sunlight to charge solar lights. They need some form of light to power them on. A solar light can get charged from artificial light, incandescent bulbs, or LED lamps. Whilst sunlight is the best source of power any other good light source will be ok.

5) How do solar lights know when to come on?

A photoreceptor sensor on the light system detects when it's dark and turns on the light, which is usually made up of several light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The battery then supplies electricity to the light throughout the night. This process repeats daily.

6) How many hours of direct sunlight do solar lights need?

Ideally, your solar panels should receive at least four hours of direct sunlight per day.

Despite their ability to perform in low light settings, you'll get the most out of your solar panels if they receive a reasonable amount of direct sunlight every day.

7) Do you need to replace batteries in solar lights?

It's a good idea to replace the batteries in your solar lights regularly; perhaps every year or two. Almost all garden solar lights use low-capacity rechargeable batteries.
