Surface Preparation:

Ensure all surfaces are free of dirt, grease, dust, algae, loose paint, and rust. Prepare old timber surfaces by sanding to a smooth surface. Porous surfaces may require priming using diluted PondShield Starter (1 part PondShield Starter to 2 parts water). Allow 1 hour to dry.

Application:

Allow the surface to dry completely before applying PondShield Starter. To check for moisture, tape a clear plastic sheet (300mm x 300mm) over the substrate at the likely damp area. If moisture appears on the underside of the plastic within 2 hours, the substrate is too damp. Repeat the test until no moisture is present. Stir well prior to use. Apply by brush, roller, or soft broom.

PondShield Starter should be applied in two coats, each at 0.5 liters per sqm, allowing 24 hours of drying time between coats. Any single wet coat thickness should not exceed 1mm. For best results, apply the second coat at a 90° angle to the first coat.

For timber surfaces, such as fence timbers or tank stands, priming is not necessary, but two coats of PondShield Starter are recommended, keeping each coat under 1mm thickness. For concrete and masonry with fine hairline cracks, prime with PondShield diluted with water. While this coat is tacky, fill cracks with PondShield Starter mixed with sand. Allow 48 hours for drying before applying additional coats.
